Dental software developer 3Shape has filed a patent infringement complaint against dental 3D scanner company Medit.
3Shape claims Medit's intraoral scanner systems infringe on 3Shape patents for wireless scanning, scanning software and tooth color shade measurement, according to a July 7 news release.
3Shape filed the complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas. The company seeks monetary damages and injunctive relief, the release said.
"The innovation and scanner technology in 3Shape Trios are unique and fundamental to why we are the choice of doctors," Thomas Kirkbak, director of litigation and compliance at 3Shape, said in the release. "3Shape Trios has received the Best of Class award for intraoral scanners an unprecedented 10 years in a row. We simply cannot allow other companies to copy our hard-earned technology and infringe on our patents."
Becker's has reached out to Medit for comment.
