Foothill Ranch, Calif.-based Biolase released its second-quarter financial results, showing a large increase in net revenue and laser technology sales.
Biolase's net revenue increased by 211 percent year over year, totaling $9.1 million. Net revenue was also 6 percent higher than the second quarter of 2019, according to an Aug. 12 press release.
Biolase reported a net loss of $708,000 for the second quarter of 2021, an 85 percent improvement over a net loss of $4.7 million in the same period a year prior.
Sales for Biolase's dental lasers increased by 424 percent. More than 70 percent of U.S. laser sales came from new customers.
"Our strong second quarter performance is due to rising demand for our industry-leading dental lasers as a result of our intensified focus on education and training, the increased safety our lasers provide to dentists and their patients, and the published studies highlighting the improved results our laser provides to treat perio-disease," President and CEO John Beaver said in the press release.
