Thirty-four percent of dentist owners plan to retire within six years, according to Dentalpost's 2025 Dental Salary Survey Report.
Dentalpost surveyed nearly 3,500 dental professionals to create this year's report. The survey was conducted from October to November 2024.
Four statistics on dentist job turnover and retirement to know:
1. About 46% of responding dentist associates said they are considering or actively seeking a new job within the year. This decision is primarily driven by the search for higher income, a better work environment, better benefits and more career opportunities.
2. More than 28% of responding dentist associates reported changing jobs in the last 12 months. These job changes were primarily driven by searches for a better work
environment, higher pay and better hours.
3. Fifteen percent of dentist owners plan to retire in less than three years.
4. About 16% of dentist associates plan to retire within six years.
