Des Moines (Iowa) Area Community College could lose accreditation of its dental assistant training program, according to a Sept. 14 report by Iowa Capital Dispatch.
The main concern is due to the college's sterilization space, as it does not meet the standards of the Commission on Dental Accreditation or the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
CODA also raised issues related to ensuring only one student works at each chair station, providing more information on faculty and offering clarification syllabi content.
Jeanie McCarville-Kerber, dean of health and public services at the school, said that the college has fixed all the problem areas except the sterilization area.
Des Moines Area Community College's dental assistant program currently has 29 students enrolled, the report said.
