8 dental Medicaid, Medicare updates to know

From CMS proposals to states initiatives, here are eight dental-related Medicaid and Medicare updates Becker's has reported on so far in July:

1. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services published its inaugural fact sheet listing the progress of its oral health cross-cutting initiative.

2. The increased costs of dental supplies, staffing salaries and lease costs are causing financial strains for Texas dental practices dedicated to providing care to Medicaid patients, according to a July 22 report by Texas Dentists for Medicaid Reform.

3. A national poll showed that 92% of national voters support adding dental coverage to Medicare.

4. New Hampshire is trying to entice more dental providers to treat Medicaid patients through new initiatives.

5. A handful of states have implemented changes to their Medicaid dental programs, including expanding Medicaid programs and increasing dental benefit limits.

6. Dental leaders are growing increasingly concerned about the impact the Medicaid redetermination process could have on patient care and accessibility.

7. CMS released several proposals July 10 related to Medicare payments and claims submissions for dental services.

8. The American Medical Association adopted a policy to support expanding dental coverage under Medicare, Medicaid and CHIP.
