Medicaid dental coverage for adults in New York is being expanded after a legal settlement, according to a May 1 report by Fox 5 New York.
Under current rules, as long as adults have four pairs of matching back teeth, common procedures, including root canals and crowns, are not covered for Medicaid recipients.
The class-action suit settlement requires the state department of health to remove some of its restrictive rules, including the "eight points of contact" policy.
More than five million residents will be able to receive better dental care and improve their oral health as a result.
The Legal Aid Society brought the suit to federal court in 2018, the report said.
