New Hampshire expands Medicaid dental coverage for adults

Dental coverage for adults on Medicaid in New Hampshire have been expanded through the New Hampshire Smiles Adult Program.

The program, which went into effect April 1, expands dental services for adults covered through Medicaid to include X-rays and examinations, cleanings, fillings, limited gum-related treatment, tooth extractions and other oral surgeries, according to a March 31 news release from the state health department.

Adults older than 21 on the state's Medicaid program are automatically eligible for the additional benefits.

The expansion of covered services comes following bipartisan support of legislation signed by Gov. Chris Sununu, the release said.

On April 1, the state made available two mobile oral health clinics for Medicaid recipients 21 and older as the beginning of the program's implementation.
