Dental insurance trends from 5 most populous states

California, Texas, Florida, New York and Pennsylvania all offer dental coverage options for less than $10 a month, according to dentalinsurance.com.

The website analyzed dental insurance trends in the five most populated states: California, Texas, Florida, New York and Pennsylvania. The analysis used October data to examine financial considerations such as premiums, annual caps on benefit expenses and deductible amounts. Read more about the methodology here.

Five insights on the dental plans that were reviewed from the five most populated states, according to dentalInsurance.com:

1. Pennsylvania had the lowest average premium at $37.17 for single coverage while California had the highest with an average almost 22 percent higher at $47.61.

2. The average monthly premiums in New York and Texas were $39.31 and $39.25 respectively while Florida's was $41.92.

3. In Florida, 38 percent of the dental plans reviewed didn't have waiting periods.

4. New York had the lowest maximum benefit at $1,571 annually while Pennsylvania had the highest at $1,720.

5. New York had the lowest deductible average, at $50 for a single enrollee while Pennsylvania had the highest at $66.
