A new CMS proposal and seven other Medicaid and Medicare updates since June 29:
1. The HHS Health Resources and Services Administration awarded $1.6 million to the Nevada Medicaid program to help alleviate dental workforce shortages.
2. The Medicaid-Medicare-CHIP Services Dental Association and dental artificial intelligence company Overjet worked together to create the first national Medicaid artificial intelligence dental program initiative.
3. CMS proposed to pay for more dental services as part of its proposed Calendar Year 2023 Physician Fee Schedule.
4. A proposed rule from CMS would increase the facility fee for dental surgeries performed in hospitals.
5. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association and the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons asked CMS to expand access to surgical dental services for children and adults with special needs and those with disabilities.
6. The American Dental Association led a group of medical organizations asking lawmakers to expand dental care coverage under Medicaid.
7. Members of the House and Senate penned letters prompting CMS to expand dental coverage under Medicare.
8. Fourteen states have done work to improve dental coverage for residents under Medicaid in 2022, according to the American Dental Association.
