Maryland legislators are considering a proposal that would add basic dental coverage for Medicaid recipients in the state, the Cumberland Times-News reported March 18.
State Delegate Mike McKay said the bill would cover services such as teeth cleanings and a certain number of fillings to help prevent patients from visiting hospital emergency rooms for dental care.
State Senate President William Ferguson and Del. Maggie McIntosh, chair of the House appropriations committee, are looking for ways to fund the program. Mr. McKay said they will not use general funds from the state's budget toward the program.
