The Delta Dental divisions in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana will expand coverage for people with intellectual or developmental disabilities beginning January 2022, the company announced Sept. 7.
People with special needs will have access to enhanced coverage if their employers opt for the benefits. These benefits include dental consultations, up to four dental cleanings a year, use of silver diamine fluoride to treat cavities and tailored treatment delivery methods for people with conditions such as sensory sensitivities, behavioral challenges and severe anxiety.
The expanded coverage is being offered with the help of the Delta Dental Foundation. The foundation is also sponsoring a free continuing education series through the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in Philadelphia to train dental care providers on treating people with special needs. Those who complete the series will receive a "Disabilities Dentistry Clinician Expert" designation.
