Dr. Michael Milano receives Golisano Health Leadership Award for commitment to Special Olympics: 3 things to know

Michael Milano, DMD, has been named the 2016 recipient of the Golisano Health Leadership Award for his commitment to patients with intellectual disabilities.

The Golisano Health Leadership Award is presented every two years to individuals and organizations who have helped to improve healthcare for the Special Olympics.

Here’s what you need to know about Dr. Milano:

1. He is a faculty member at University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in Chapel Hill.

2. In recent years, he has provided free dental exams and arranged follow-up care for those with intellectual disabilities. He has also recruited dental professionals, written grants and published peer-reviewed research to encourage others to do the same.

3. At this year’s Special Olympics North Carolina Fall Tournament in High Point, he provided free dental exams and oral hygiene instruction to 165 athletes.
