Kool Smiles encourages children to donate candy to US troops

The dental services company Kool Smiles, which has 124 office locations across the United States, is hosting its annual Halloween candy exchange program "Operation Troop Treats."

For the fifth year, children will have the opportunity to donate their candy from Oct. 28 to Nov. 5. The program's goal is to "promote good dental hygiene during the Halloween season."

Here's what you need to know:

1. For every 25 pieces of unopened candy a child donates, they will have the option to receive one toy, with a limit of three toys per child.

2. The program, conducted in partnership with the nonprofit Operation Gratitude, will use the candy to create care packages for U.S. troops serving abroad; along with the candy, Kool Smiles will also donate 200 dental care kits.

3. Since Kool Smiles began its Halloween candy exchange, the company has sent more than 1,000 care packages through Operation Gratitude.

"Operation Troop Treats is our way of encouraging children and parents to maintain healthy dental habits this Halloween, while also bringing a little bit of joy to U.S. service members deployed overseas who are not able to celebrate with family here at home," said Kool Smiles Chief Dental Officer Dale Mayfield, DMD.
