The American Dental Association Foundation recently named Nathan Suter, DDS, and Dhwani Joshi, a dental student, the 2016 recipients of the Dr. David Whiston Leadership Award and Henry Schein Cares Dr. David Whiston Leadership Award, respectively.
Here's what you need to know:
1. These two awards recognize early-career dentists and dental students who have proven their leadership skills and have worked to improve oral health.
2. Dr. Suter is the oral health director for the Festus, Mo.-based health center Comtrea. He has worked to develop mobile dental services and school-based dental clinics, in an effort to expand oral healthcare access.
3. Dr. Suter earned his doctor of dental surgery degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry in Kansas City, Mo.
4. Ms. Joshi is a fourth year student at A.T. Still University's Missouri School of Dentistry & Oral Health in Kirksville, Mo., where she was awarded the school's Elsie Gaber Compassion & Integrity Award for her compassion, integrity and humanism.
5. Ms. Joshi's volunteer work focus on community-based oral health promotion and disease prevention programs.
