Wake County (N.C.) dental practices Surgical Center for Dental Professionals of Raleigh and Valleygate Dental Surgery Center are both vying to build a dental surgery center in Wake County, although only one practice will come out of the process victorious, according to Triangle Business Journal.
Here are six takeaways:
1. Due to stringent North Carolina regulations, the county will only permit the addition of one dental surgery center in Wake County.
2. SCDPR filed a certificate-of-need for a $4 million facility in Raleigh, equipped with two operating rooms and six procedure rooms.
3. Its contender, VDSCR, submitted a CON for a nearly $3.8 million center with two operating rooms and one procedure room. The practice would build the surgery center in Garner, N.C.
4. The public has the opportunity to provide letters of support or opposition during a review period. Thus, VDSCR submitted an opposition letter which claims SCDPR's application has "misleading information." VDSCR also claimed SCDPR's facility would raise costs.
5. Following VDSCR's allegations, SCDPR said VDSCR is guilty of having misleading information in its CON, which says the N.C. Dental Society supports VDSCR's application. However, while the N.C. Dental Society supports the notion of adding a surgery center to serve Wake County residents, the society did not specifically give support to VDSCR.
6. The N.C. Department of Health and Human Service officials will evaluate both CONs and comments before making its decision, which the loser has the opportunity to appeal.
