Pediatric dentist Martha Ann Keels, DDS, PhD, and her husband Dennis A. Clements III, MD, PhD, donated $1 million to University of Rochester (N.Y.) Medical Center.
Here are four notes:
1. The university will use nearly $500,000 to establish the Dr. Dennis A. Clements III and Dr. Martha Ann Keels Student Support Fund, which will provide funds for medical students to serve countries with health disparities.
2. University of Rochester Medical Center will use the other portion of the donation to create the Dr. Dennis A. Clements III and Dr. Martha Ann Keels Eastman Institute for Oral Health Pediatric Dentistry Clinic.
3. Eli Eliav, DMD, PhD, serves as the director of Eastman Institute for Oral Heath. Through the donation, Dr. Eliav said the clinic can undergo updates to provide the best care and education.
4. Dr. Keels has offered dental care for children with special needs for nearly three decades, and fills a gap, as many patients travel hours to see her. Few pediatric dentists are equipped with the necessary training to treat children with special needs.
