ADA, Wonderbox Technologies team up on dental provider credentialing website: 5 takeaways

The American Dental Association and Wonderbox Technologies, a software firm that is part of SKYGEN USA, are collaborating to develop a centralized dental provider credentialing database and website.

Here are five takeaways:

1. Wonderbox Technologies Enterprise System will power the database and website, which will enable dentists to enter their credentials via a secure web portal on ADA's website.

2. Dentists will then have their credentials readily accessible for all insurers, making it easier for dentists. The former model entailed dentists responding individually to each insurer request for credentialing information.

3. Dentists need not be ADA members to use the free service, and insurers can go to a separate ADA web portal to download the information. After submitting a nominal fee, insurers can download the information as raw or verified files.

4. The ADA and Wonderbox Technologies will launch a pilot program in Kansas, New Jersey and Nevada in June. They will schedule the full rollout of the website and database later this summer.

5. The largest U.S. dental association, the ADA represents more than 159,000 dentist members and has served the dentistry field since its inception in 1859.

"Through conversations with our dentist members, the ADA determined that responding to multiple requests for the same credentialing information from different dental payers is a time-consuming and costly administrative burden that takes away from time spent on patient care," said Kathleen O'Loughlin, DMD, executive director of the ADA. "Building a centralized, comprehensive database as we are executing solves that issue."
