DENTSPLY, Sirona complete merger; 3M to retain health informatics systems business & more — 5 key notes

Here are five updates on dental companies from the last week.

DENTSPLY International and Sirona Dental Systems successfully completed their merger to create the world's largest dental products and technologies manufacturer. The company, Dentsply Sirona, has some of the leading positions and brands across technology, consumables, equipment and specialty products.

Ethisphere Institute named Henry Schein as a 2016 World's Most Ethical Company for the fifth consecutive year. Of the 131 Ethisphere awardees, Henry Schein is the sole honoree in the Healthcare Products category.

On March 18, Arizona-based Midwestern University and College of Dental Medicine students will provide free dental care for local veterans as part of Healthy Mouth Movement. Aspen Dental dentists as well as Midwestern dental faculty will supervise the students, according to Midwestern University News.

Despite hiring Goldman Sachs last fall to help the company analyze various strategic options for its health informatics systems business, 3M is opting to not find a purchaser for the business. Health informatics accounts comprise 2.5 percent of 3M's total revenue, according to The Motley Fool.

In November 2016, Carestream is hosting the Global Oral Health Summit in Las Vegas. Various professionals in the dental, orthodontic and oral and maxillofacial surgery fields will attend the event, according to DrBicuspid.com.
