Mobile vans bring dental care to the elderly — 5 takeaways

 

Albuquerque, N.M.-based dental professionals are providing care to hundreds of elderly patients through mobile vans, according to Albuquerque Journal.

Here are five takeaways:

1. Cathy Elliott, RDH, a dental hygienist, started Dental Care in Your Home after learning many elderly patients did not receive dental care.  

2. From 2012 to 2015, the patient load has increased from 100 patients to 634 patients.

3. The organization operates on a budget of $200,000 each year.

4. Dental Care in Your Home consists of a full-time practice manager as well as a rotating staff of paid part-time employees, including two hygienists and three dental assistants.

5. Many dental payers approve of the program and provide reimbursement for care.
