The Carlson Center is offering free dental care to Fairbanks residents, according to Alaska Dispatch News.
Here are seven things to know:
1. The dental services were provided over a course of two days.
2. The event served as many as 1,000 individuals in the community.
3. The majority of the patients at the clinic suffered from long-term pain before seeking treatment.
4. Most of the clinic's resources were originally allocated for fillings, but the resources were shifted to extractions after assessing the needs of the patients.
5. The Alaska branch of Mission of Mercy put on the event with the help of the Alaska Dental Society Charitable Activities Fund and several individual and business donations.
6. The clinic needed around $120,000 in donations to cover supply costs. Mission of Mercy was able to gather more than $135,000 in donations.
7. A major difficulty was gathering sufficient numbers of chairs and equipment, which were donated by the America's Dentists Care Foundation. Various transportation companies such as Lynden Transport and the Alaska Railroad transported the supplies to the clinic.
