Dental hygiene clinics inadequately supervised, says Iowa Dental Board

For a year and a half between 2013 and 2014, students at Iowa Western Community College's dental hygiene program were allowed to work on elementary school students without adequate supervision, according to findings from the Iowa Dental Board reported from The Daily Nonpareil.

The students' work reportedly included applying sealants and fluoride vanishes without direct supervision from a dentist.

A citation against Lisa M. Kucera, RDH., assistant professor at Iowa Western in the dental hygiene program was upheld by the board.
