How dental AI is easing provider-payer relationships

There can sometimes be friction between dental providers and payers, but dental AI company Overjet is aiming to help bridge the gap.

The key to mending the relationship between the two sides is getting them on the same wavelength, according to Overjet CEO Wardah Inam, PhD.

"Being able to see eye to eye, being able to be on the same page is very, very important, and it's very important for understanding that both of these parties have one objective, which is ensuring that the patients get the right care and the best care possible," Dr. Inam told Becker's.

Up to this point, technology has not been able to do its part in reducing friction, but Dr. Inam sees that changing.

"Technological ecosystems have not played its role to really decrease the friction between payers and providers when it comes to revenue cycle management, of which a lot of it is still manual," Dr. Inam said. "They're spending a lot of money dealing with providers through phone calls, getting them onto the network and ensuring that they have the right data back and forth, which adds more friction into the system."

By implementing and integrating AI, dental practices and dental insurers are able to cut down on the manual aspects of their relationship and move more towards cost-saving automations.

"It's our goal to reduce administrative costs and help ensure that the best care is being delivered to the patient," Dr. Inam told Becker's. "Our imaging and other softwares help in diagnosis, planning, treatment, case acceptance, and then on the payment side, we work on claims and having claim reimbursement be faster, more accurate, and reduce the friction between the payer and the provider."

Developments in AI and revenue cycle management are starting to play a bigger role in getting dental providers and payers on the same page to allow them to focus on their important goal of providing the best care to the patient.
