Kevin Rogus, vice president of mergers and acquisitions at Smile Brands, joined "Becker's Dental + DSO Podcast" to share what sets the company's culture apart, and where M&A activity in the dental sector is headed.
Here's what Mr. Rogus had to say:
- "We have this mantra where a well run DSO obviously should be run low financially and doing well economically, but you should also be contributing to the communities in which you operate," he said, adding that the company has provided $20 million in donated care through its Smiles for Everyone Foundation.
- "Never let a good crisis go to waste," Mr. Rogus said, noting that the pandemic has accelerated partnerships between dental practices and DSOs. Ultimately, this will help improve dental care amid the ongoing pandemic and beyond.
- Going forward, there will likely be an emphasis on partnering with what Mr. Rogus deemed "best-in-class" DSOs, or those that were able to ride out the COVID-19 storm. The best DSOs are those that are honest with partners, acknowledging that challenges will inevitably arise, but that cultivate a culture of mutual respect while maintaining a focus on patients, Mr. Rogus said.
