Case Western Reserve University dental school dean to step down after 11-year tenure

Kenneth Chance Sr., DDS, will step down from his role as dean of Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine Dec. 31.

Dr. Chance graduated from the Cleveland-based dental school in 1979, and later became the first dentist to serve on the university’s board of trustees. He became dean of the school in 2013. During his tenure, the dental school made several investments in technology, including a $2.6 million upgrade to its simulation lab. The school also increased its fundraising efforts, strengthened student recruitment and expanded its community outreach.

Dr. Chance said in a Feb. 21 news release that he will continue to work with the school as a faculty member.

The university said it will immediately begin searching for a new dean.
