University of the Pacific dental school dean resigns

Nader Nadershahi, DDS, has resigned as dean of San Francisco-based Dugoni School of Dentistry of the University of the Pacific in Stockton, Calif., according to a Feb. 14 report from NBC affiliate KCRA 3.

The dental school recently faced criticism about how it is being operated, with faculty voicing concerns surrounding financial reporting, admission numbers and budget allocation.

Last month, the school's board of regents received a letter from members of the school of dentistry about concerns with the university's leadership, leading to Dr. Nadershahi's resignation announcement.

The board immediately began a 10-day investigation into the concerns, but found no violations of policy or law, according to the outlet.

On Feb. 13, the board released a new statement after an ad hoc committee delved further into the complaints, meeting with faculty, staff and students, in addition to reviewing documents.

The board said that several concerns have been addressed, including an "indefinite hold" on the expansion of class sizes.

The dean's office confirmed Dr. Nadershahi's resignation to the news outlet, the report said.
