Matthew Bistan, DDS, has been appointed as chair of the Dental and Dental Hygienist Compact Commission.
The Dental and Dental Hygienist Compact increases license portability across member states for dentists and hygienists, removing the need for dental professionals to gain a license in each individual state.
There are 10 states currently in the compact, and 15 states currently have legislation pending to join the compact.
The compact was officially activated in April 2024, with the commission having its first meeting the following August, during which commissioners discussed potential rules clarifying "clinical assessment" language, the powers of the commission officers, and options for the data sharing system. The compact implementation process is expected to take 18-24 months to complete.
Dr. Bistan was elected to his role during the commission's January meeting, according to a Feb. 13 news release.
Dr. Bistan is a member of the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services Dentistry Examining Board. He is also a partner at Signature Dental in Sheboygan, Wis.
