DSOs are making strategic investments this year to boost patient care and continue to support dentists as they expand their networks.
Here are three notable ventures DSOs are diving into in 2025:
Technology
Guardian Dentistry Partners recently chose Pearl and Planet DDS to provide AI and practice management software to its network, continuing the trend of DSOs leaning into cutting-edge technologies to support their partners and patients.
Guardian Dentistry Partners said the move will help unify its operations, streamline workflows and improve the patient experience across its network of more than 160 offices.
"At GDP, we are committed to equipping our supported practices with the most advanced technology to drive efficiency, elevate patient care, and support our teams," Frank Fortino, chief technology officer at Guardian Dentistry Partners, said in a news release. "Our investment in Denticon and Pearl AI is a game-changer, positioning us at the forefront of AI-driven dental innovation."
Staffing and team development
Several DSOs have entered education partnerships or launched programs to support the workforce as the industry continues to grapple with shortages.
PDS Health partnered with Roseman University of Health Sciences College of Dental Medicine in South Jordan, Utah, to provide students with hands-on clinical training. PDS Health will participate in Roseman's DSO External Rotation Program, allowing students to treat patients under the supervision of licensed dental professionals.
Additionally, PepperPointe Partnerships graduated its first class of doctors from its leadership development program. The three-year program helps associate doctors learn soft and advanced skills in preparation for ownership. Ten out of the 15 graduating participants are now transitioning into doctor ownership roles. The next class of associate doctors will be welcomed this year.
Acquisitions
DSO leaders are ready to kickstart inorganic growth initiatives again after spending the last couple of years focusing on internal growth measures.
Sarasota, Fla.-based Parkview Dental Partners hit its 25-office milestone after acquiring the practice of Douglas Wendt, DDS, in Brandon, Fla.
Other growth milestones include ClearChoice Dental Implant Centers, which opened its first Hawaii office in February. The new office is led by Kevin Loo, DMD, the only board-certified prosthodontist in Hawaii.
MB2 Dental also added its first practice in Hawaii, partnering with Hawaii Endodontics, which has locations in Honolulu, Kailua and Aiea. The partnership marks the 45th state where MB2 Dental supports practices.
