Industry competition is creating new challenges for DSOs to attract dentists.
Dental365 Founder and CEO Scott Asnis, DDS, and Joshua Gish, DDS, president of Leading Edge Specialized Dentistry, recently spoke with Becker's about their predictions for 2025.
Editor's note: Responses were lightly edited for length and clarity.
Question: What do both of you predict the greatest challenges to be for DSOs in 2025?
Dr. Scott Asnis: Every DSO is going to be challenged to prove their worth. The tide is going out, and we all need to show how the promise of ethical quality dentistry with aligned providers can be a successful, scalable business. The days of just adding revenue, thankfully, are over. The industry climate is more discerning, so that DSOs that are just built to recapitalize over and over again will not be sufficient. The challenge will be to build a high performing business that offers value to the patients. This is a very difficult job, and it requires an enormous amount of work and attention with a real passion for dentistry and for quality.
Dr. Joshua Gish: Everyone's going to be challenged to prove their worth, and it's time for us to shine. Businesses like ours that focus on dentistry and quality dentistry are the ones that are going to be successful in the coming years.
