Last year was a strong growth and expansion period for many of the largest DSOs in the U.S., including Heartland Dental and Pacific Dental Services.
Here are some of the biggest takeaways from the 2023 growth reports from a few of the biggest DSOs that Becker's has reported on.
1. Effingham, Ill.-based Heartland Dental received certificates of occupancy on 94 dental practices in 2023, adding 1,130 new dental operatories to expand access to care. The DSO also added 33 practices through its affiliation program.
2. Irvine, Calif.-based Pacific Dental Services grew in 18 states by opening 72 practices, expanding 26 existing practices and adding six medical practices. The DSO also marked the opening of its 950th supported practice.
3. Tempe, Ariz.-based Gen4 Dental Partners acquired more than 20 practices, adding more than 70 dentists across more than 40 office locations and additionally teaming up with 27 new partner doctors.
4. Dallas-based MB2 Dental added 163 practices in 2023, ending the year with 663 supported locations.
5. Atlanta-based Benevis hired more than 150 dentists and more than 95 dental hygienists. The organization provided care to more than 600,000 patients in 2023.
6. Affordable Dentures & Implants, a brand of Morrisville, N.C.-based Affordable Care, opened 25 office locations in 2023.
