Several small-scale DSOs spent the year affiliating with new practices, entering new markets and adding industry partnerships to grow their businesses.
Here is a summary of what four entrepreneurial DSOs accomplished in 2022:
Guardian Dentistry Partners (Miami)
Guardian Dentistry Partners added several practices this year, expanding its network to more than 100 practices in 11 states. It is now on pace to reach 165 practices by the end of the year.
In August, the DSO appointed Max Van Vliet vice president of partnership development to work with potential doctor partners on practice goals.
Sage Dental (Boca Raton, Fla.)
As of September, Sage Dental added 14 practices and more than 140 clinicians across Florida and Georgia. The DSO continues to expand its network, most recently acquiring two Florida practices. The organization also hired five new directors of market operations to oversee the daily operations and functions of practices. In addition to practice growth, Sage Dental has focused on technology initiatives to enhance patient care, inking partnerships with dental artificial intelligence company Pearl and Japanese clear align manufacturer SheepMedical.
The DSO supports 85 dental practices in two states.
Dental365 (New Hyde Park, N.Y.)
Dental365 has locations in Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. It reached 100 locations in September with a new facility in Brick Township, N.J. Among the many practice affiliations and acquisitions made this year, the company placed No. 89 on Inc. magazine's list of the fastest growing private companies in the Northeast, experiencing 102 percent growth during a two-year period. It also appointed Thomas Eicke, RN, its new president, and David Jordan as its CFO. Dental365's COO Terri Krauss recently told Becker's she expects to see the company surpass 200 supported practices by the end of 2023.
Gen4 Dental Partners (Tempe, Ariz.)
Gen4 Dental Partners expanded its footprint in several states this year, including Kansas, Utah, Minnesota, Michigan and Arizona. In April, the organization hired Rob Mullins to be its COO. The DSO recently partnered with Bill Dorfman, DDS, a cosmetic and general dentist, entrepreneur, lecturer and author practicing at Century City Aesthetic Dentistry in Los Angeles. Gen4 Dental Partners has 76 locations in 10 states, 50 dentist partners and more than 1,300 employees.
