Several small DSOs have made moves this year to expand their organizations and reach new milestones.
Here are three ways entrepreneurial DSOs are expanding:
Editor's Note: Entrepreneurial DSOs are those with less than 300 dental practices in their networks.
Practice affiliations
Several DSOs have expanded their practice networks this year with partnerships and acquisitions.
Frisco, Texas-based Bond Orthodontic Partners added several practices to its network this year and entered the Idaho market this month. Two other DSOs also entered new states, with Lexington, Ky.-based PepperPointe Partnerships adding its first New York practice and the Smilist Management adding its first Pennsylvania practice.
In July, Brentwood, Tenn.-based Marquee Dental Partners partnered with O'Donnell Family Dentistry in Lexington, Ky., bringing its total number of offices to 68. Trevose, Pa.-based Simply Beautiful Smiles surpassed 40 practice locations in July with plans to surpass 50 practices by the end of this year.
Investments
Three entrepreneurial DSOs received private equity investments so far this year, including Madison, Wis.-based DSO First Choice Dental; Los Angeles-based West Coast Dental; and West Sacramento, Calif.-based Ideal Dental Management Partners.
New products
Boca Raton, Fla.-based Sage Dental partnered with Japanese clear aligner manufacturer SheepMedical in July to offer KiyoClear orthodontic aligners at its practices, making it the first U.S. DSO to do so.
