Dental Care Alliance has agreed to pay a $3 million settlement to resolve claims that it failed to protect consumers from a data breach, Top Class Actions reported Aug. 2.
The data breach occurred from Sept. 18 to Oct. 13, 2020. One million patients were affected.
Those affected by the data breach were notified in October 2020, December 2020 or April 2021. Some individuals' Social Security numbers, financial account information, bank account data and driver's license numbers may have been compromised, according to Top Class Actions.
Some patients who were affected by the breach took legal action against Dental Care Alliance, stating that the DSO failed to protect patient information from third-party hackers. Dental Care Alliance did not admit to these claims, but agreed on a $3 million settlement.
The settlement's final approval hearing is scheduled for Sept. 1.
