CFOs play a critical role in the success of DSOs as the organizations grow their talent and expand their footprints throughout the U.S.
Several of the largest DSOs have big plans in place to continue their progress in 2022.
Here are the CFOs of nine of the largest DSOs in the U.S.:

Russell Allen. Dental Care Alliance (Sarasota, Fla.). Mr. Allen was appointed CFO in 2016. He has held various financial leadership positions at several companies, including Community Intervention Services, a behavioral health and substance abuse organization, and the Ford Motor Company.
William Dembereckyj. Western Dental (Orange, Calif.). Mr. Dembereckyj carries with him more than 25 years of financial and operational experience in the healthcare and insurance industries. Prior to joining Western Dental, he was COO and CFO at HealthSmart, a healthcare management company.
Christine Emma. American Dental Partners (Wakefield, Mass.). Ms. Emma joined American Dental Partners in 2017 and was promoted to CFO in 2020. She brings with her more than 20 years of experience in accounting, finance and management in the life sciences and technology industries.
Travis Franklin. Heartland Dental (Effingham, Ill.). Mr. Franklin joined Heartland Dental in 2004. His previous positions with the DSO include executive vice president of development, executive general manager, development director and analyst. Before joining Heartland Dental, he was chief investment officer at WMG Development, a commercial real estate company.
Taylor Hawes. Pacific Dental Services (Irvine, Calif.). Mr. Hawes joined Pacific Dental Services in 2019 with more than 30 years of experience in the manufacturing and software industries under his belt. He is a member of the International Accounting Standards Board advisory council and a member of the advisory board at the University of California's Leventhal School of Accounting in Los Angeles.
Jackson Hildebrand. MB2 Dental (Carrollton, Texas). Mr. Hildebrand was appointed CFO in 2018. He was previously the finance director for TPG Global, an investment firm.
Brad Schmidt. Smile Brands (Irvine, Calif.). Mr. Schmidt has been with Smile Brands since 1998, serving as vice president and controller before being appointed CFO. He has led the company through its growth as a startup to one of the largest DSOs in the U.S., including the optimization of its services infrastructure.
Jon Vitiello. Affordable Care (Morrisville, N.C.). Mr. Vitiello joined Affordable Care in 2020. He was previously senior vice president, financial operations and chief analytics officer for Chesterfield, Mo.-based Mercy health system.
Alexander Weiss. The Aspen Group (Chicago). Mr. Weiss joined the Aspen Group in 2017. He started as the senior vice president of finance before being promoted to CFO in 2019. Before joining the DSO, he was CFO at Mattress Firm and spent about a decade in investment banking.
