A San Francisco Superior Court approved the $65 million amended settlement agreement between the California Dental Association Premier dentists and Delta Dental of California.
Here are four things to know.
1. CDA initiated the legal battle in 2013 once discovering Delta Dental planned to reduce Premier dentist provider rates by 8 percent to 12 percent.
2. Throughout the trial, CDA learned Delta Dental was imposing limitations on provider annual fee filings. Per the settlement, Premier dentists who had fees reduced are eligible for reimbursement.
3. Specific terms of the settlement include:
• Delta Dental will play more than $65 million to Premier dentists
• More than 14,000 dentists are allocated an amount ranging between $500 to thousands of dollars in reimbursement. CDA expects the average to be $4,480 per dentist
• Delta Dental will now provide Premier dentists with a 120-day notice of material changes
• Delta Dental will provide CDA with a 12-day notice of any changes to participating dentists
• Delta Dental will pay an additional $2.35 million for attorney fees and expenses
4. CDA estimates by blocking Delta Dental's efforts to reduce Premier provider reimbursement it saved dentists more than $600 million in Premier plan fee reductions.
