The North Carolina Board of Dental Examiners has denied the license reinstatement of a dentist who it claims is responsible for a patient’s death.
In 2022, the board charged Christian Anderson, DMD, with negligence and malpractice after a patient, to whom he administered sedation, died, according to a document from the board.
In 2023, Dr. Anderson had his dental license suspended for 10 years and had his permit to administer conscious moderate sedation revoked.
The board implemented two prerequisites for Dr. Anderson to seek a stay of the remaining term of the suspension: an assessment for issues relating to Dr. Anderson’s post-traumatic stress syndrome and completion of continuing education course.
Shortly after the one-year mark after the initial suspension, Dr. Anderson submitted a petition for a stay of the remaining term of his suspension and a corresponding application for reinstatement.
On June 13, 2024, the board denied the reinstatement application and stay petition.
In its most recent decision on Feb. 27, the dental board determined that Dr. Anderson has not demonstrated “substantial reformation” and denied his application for reinstatement.
