Illinois dentist’s license placed on permanent inactive status

The license of a dentist in Hoffman Estates, Ill., has been placed on permanent inactive status for multiple violations.

The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation suspended the dental license, licensed specialist in dentistry license and controlled substance license of Paul Petrungaro, DDS, according to a report from the department.

Dr. Petrungaro’s license was placed on permanent inactive status due to billing irregularities, unprofessional conduct, substandard care, patient abandonment, gross negligence and failure to provide copies of dental records. 

The department previously suspended Dr. Petrungaro’s license in 2013 and 2023, according to his dental license history on the department’s website
