The University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha will begin offering a dual degree in dentistry and public health.
Yun Saksena, DMD, the associate dean for education at the UNMC College of Dentistry, said in a Feb. 25 news release that many of the college’s dental graduates go on to practice in underserved rural areas. The new degree, which will be offered through the university's Colleges of Dentistry and Public Health, allows dentists to integrate public health concepts into their practices to support overall wellbeing.
Dental students will take their public health courses online for dual credits, allowing them to complete the degree within four years.
The school expects its first cohort of dental students to enroll in the master's of public health program in the summer of 2026.
