American Heart Association expands testing in dental practices

The American Heart Association has launched an initiative to expand blood pressure screenings to dental clinics.

The "Embracing Community Care" program will provide equipment to dental practices to screen adult patients for hypertension, according to a Feb. 4 news release from the AHA.

Participating dental clinics will receive training on blood pressure screening, as well as automated office machines and blood pressure cuffs.

Nearly half of all U.S. adults have high blood pressure, and the organization is committed to integrating oral and overall health.

The dental clinic initiative is funded by the Delta Dental of Kentucky Foundation, the release said.
