Texas woman sentenced to prison for stealing $200K+ from dental office

A Houston woman was recently sentenced to 41 months in federal prison for embezzling more than $200,000 from a dental practice where she worked.

Jennifer Lynn Thornton worked as a financial coordinator for a dental office in Houston. She had payments intended for the dental practice diverted to an account she created for a shell company. She also manipulated company records in order to be able to steal cash received from patients. The owner dentist discovered in July 2021 that Ms. Thornton had been stealing from him while reviewing his company accounts in preparation for retirement.

Ms. Thornton pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud in July 2023, according to a Jan. 16 news release from the Justice Department.

In addition to her prison sentence, Ms. Thornton will have three years of supervised release. Restitution will also be determined at a later date.
