Several dental offices have closed in recent weeks as dentist owners struggle to stay afloat financially.
Three updates to know:
1. My Community Dental Centers, a Michigan nonprofit organization serving underserved communities, is closing six of its offices due to financial constraints. The organization decided to close the offices after completing a comprehensive operational sustainability evaluation as it faces rising care costs, workforce challenges and demands for higher wages, West Michigan Newspop reported. The closures are aimed at helping the nonprofit stabilize its operations, reduce debt and direct resources to strengthen its remaining offices.
2. Elmira, N.Y.-based Southern Tier Orthodontics abruptly closed this month due to personal and financial reasons. Jason Horn, DDS, the owner, informed patients that the practice declared bankruptcy and would not be able to reimburse patients.
3. A dental clinic in St. Paul, Minn., which has been open for 60 years is on the verge of closing due to insufficient funding. The clinic requires nearly $100,000 each month to keep its doors open, and has not been able to come up with enough funding to stay open. The clinic laid off its entire staff in December. The clinic's board is looking for ways to raise funds and keep the clinic open, but has not yet found a solution.
