The looming federal government shutdown could lead to oral health workforce programs and small business protections to lose funding, according to a Dec. 19 news release from the American Dental Association.
Here are six notes for dentists:
1. The ADA is pushing members to urge their members of Congress to retain funding for dental programs.
2. The compromise in place to keep the government open fell apart Dec. 18 after President-elect Donald Trump and Elon Musk voiced their opposition.
3. The ADA supports the bill, claiming it would benefit dentistry by retaining funding for workforce programs and delay the Corporate Transparency Act compliance deadline.
4. Dental programs that may be at risk are the Action for Dental Health Act, the National Health Service Corps and the Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education program.
5. In order to avoid a government shutdown, Congress must pass a bill by Dec. 20 at midnight.
6. If passed, the bill would fund the federal government until March 2025.
