A New York woman has been charged with practicing unlicensed dentistry out of her apartment kitchen.
Gladys Serrano, 70, pleaded not guilty to one count of unauthorized practice of a profession, according to a Dec. 10 news release from the Nassau County District Attorney's office.
Ms. Serrano allegedly extracted five teeth from one person in a one-bedroom apartment in Hempstead, N.Y. She allegedly received $1,950 in payment for dental services between July 26 and Dec. 4, according to the news release.
A search warrant executed at the residence uncovered several items, including a patient chair, dental instruments, empty vials of medication and used dental needles.
If convicted, Ms. Serrano faces up to four years in prison. She is due back in court Jan. 8.
