Washington dental school signs lease to create oral health training center: 6 notes

The University of Washington School of Dentistry has signed a lease to establish an oral healthcare training center, according to an Oct. 24 report by Spokane Journal.

Here are six things to know:

1. The center is located in the UW-Gonzaga University Health Partnership's 840 Building located in Spokane, Wash.

2. The facility has a proposed valuation of $3 million for the renovations. Construction is expected to start in December, with the center anticipated to open for student use in 2025.

3. The 13,000-square-foot space will include a dental simulation lab, digital dentistry lab, classroom and administrative areas.

4. The facility will support the university's Regional Initiatives in Dentistry Education program, which prepares students to work in rural areas of Washington.

5. The RIDE program earned $2.5 million in funding through the Washington State Legislature earlier this year to support expansion.

6. In addition to the new training center, the school used the funding to double the number of students in the program from 32 to 64.
