A dentist in Iowa who performed a root canal on a patient while intoxicated surrendered his license, according to an Oct. 11 report by Iowa Capital Dispatch.
Paymun Bayati, DDS, had his license suspended by the Iowa Dental Board last year for practicing dentistry in a manner that is harmful or detrimental to the public. He was accused of being intoxicated while performing a root canal on a state prisoner.
The Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals and Licensing had not posted any updates on the case, but said that Dr. Bayati surrendered his license in April, citing the failure to post the new information as an oversight.
In April, Dr. Bayati was convicted of a misdemeanor offense of public intoxication.
Dr. Bayati told the publication that he does not drink and he believes that his dental assistant tampered with his coffee by pouring isopropyl alcohol into it when he arrived at the prison that day, the report said.
