New Hampshire hospital to cut pediatric dental services

Exeter (N.H.) Hospital plans to discontinue its pediatric dental services along with two other services, seacoastonline.com reported Sept. 16.

The hospital will close its neurology, podiatry and pediatric dentistry services Oct. 11, according to Janet Stevens, a member of New Hampshire’s Executive Council.

Exeter Hospital reportedly sent letters to patients Sept. 10 referring them to other practices in the state's sea coast region and in Massachusetts.

The hospital did not immediately respond to Seacoastonline's questions about why the services are being eliminated and how many employees and patients will be affected.

Ms. Stevens urged the state's attorney general, the state Consumer Protection Bureau and the Charitable Trust Unit to take immediate action to prevent the closures.

The decision to cut these services comes after the hospital previously announced it would end its advanced life support paramedic intercept service. The hospital cited financial reasons for ending this service, including rising costs and a "challenging reimbursement environment."
