Colorado dentist facing child porn charges agrees to stop practicing

A Colorado dentist has agreed to temporarily stop practicing as he faces charges of attempted enticement of a minor and transportation of child pornography.

Jason Atha, DDS, was charged in August in federal court in Florida, according to an Aug. 23 news release from the Justice Department.

According to documents filed with the Colorado Dental Board that have been reviewed by Becker's, Dr. Atha entered an interim cessation of practice agreement. The agreement took place in lieu of the board determining whether it has grounds to believe that the public health, safety or welfare requires emergency action against Dr. Atha's license.

As part of the agreement, Dr. Atha has agreed to not practice dentistry or perform any act requiring a license during the time the agreement is in effect. Dr. Atha signed the agreement Aug. 26.

If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of life in prison for attempted enticement of a minor and 20 years in prison for transportation of child pornography.
