Connecticut dentists pay $1.7M to settle False Claims Act allegations

Two Connecticut dentists agreed to pay $1.7 million to resolve allegations that they violated the federal and state False Claims Acts.

Stanislav Gintautas, DDS, and Tatiana Agababaeva, DDS, are the owners of three dental offices in Bridgeport, Hartford and Stamford, Conn. They are also enrolled as providers in the Connecticut Medical Assistance Program, which includes the state’s Medicaid program.

Dr. Gintautas allegedly submitted claims to the medical assistant program related to services provided to Medicaid patients who were referred to the practices by a third-party recruiting company. Dr. Gintautas allegedly paid a recruiter $115 for each Medicaid patient referred to them when those patients received certain services, according to an Aug. 28 news release.

The alleged conduct occurred between February 2016 and August 2018.
