Avesis, a dental and vision insurance company, is partnering with the Harmony Health Foundation to provide salivary diagnostic services to patients with special needs.
Harmony Health is the nonprofit arm of Oral Genome, the developer of a salivary test that detects biomarkers associated with caries and periodontitis.
As part of the year-long pilot, real-time salivary testing will be provided during dental appointments for Medicaid patients with special needs in California, Florida, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
The initiative aims to facilitate early disease detection, optimize efficiency and enhance personalized treatment planning, according to an April 23 news release.
Many dental organizations have looked to salivary diagnostics as a potential new standard of care to improve patient outcomes and advance oral systemic healthcare.
