An oral surgeon who surrendered his license in California received a license to practice dentistry in Idaho, according to a March 7 report by NBC affiliate KCRA.
David Webb, DDS, closed his practice in Vacaville, Calif., and gave up his license in the state after several patients filed sexual assault charges against him in 2022.
The charges are still pending, and the trial for the criminal complaints against Dr. Webb is scheduled for May 15. According to court records, Dr. Webb is facing eight counts of misdemeanor sexual assault.
The Idaho Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses is aware of the complaints against Dr. Webb, who received a "special status license" in Idaho, as the Idaho Board of Dentistry cannot deny licensure based solely on a pending criminal charge.
Conditions of Dr. Webb's license, according to an order the news outlet obtained from the dental board, include:
- Applicant shall obey all applicable state and federal laws and shall have no convictions for criminal offenses relevant to his practice of dentistry… whether in matters new or currently pending;
- Applicant shall not own his own dental practice nor engage in a solo practice of dentistry;
- Whenever working with a patient, another adult will be present with Applicant;
- Applicant shall complete a continuing education course in maintaining proper boundaries with patients; and
- At the request of Board staff, Applicant shall forward patient dental records to staff for the purposes of monitoring and review.
Dr. Webb's special status license expires at the end of September, the report said.
