Here are three dental practices that have recently experienced data security incidents:
1. First Choice Dental, which operates 11 dental clinics throughout Wisconsin, suffered a cybersecurity incident. The breach may have resulted in an unauthorized party gaining access to patients' personal information.
2. Toms River, N.J.-based DSO ProSmile experienced a data security incident involving personal and protected health information. The DSO became aware of a possible data security incident involving its email tenant and used a cybersecurity firm to investigate. The firm confirmed that certain personal and protected health information may have been accessed or acquired without authorization.
3. Alexandria, Va.-based Mount Vernon Dental Smiles experienced a data security incident involving patient information. The practice said it inadvertently attached a spreadsheet containing patient data on a patient communication email. The practice then emailed patients to inform them of the error and request that the previous email be deleted. The practice said it has no evidence that the patient information was misused.
